Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control to Hold Hearing on Marijuana Cultivation on U.S. Public Lands

Washington – Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, and Caucus Co-Chairman Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), will hold a hearing on Wednesday, December 7 at 2:30 p.m. on government efforts to curtail marijuana cultivation on U.S. public lands.

            The hearing will examine the exploitation of public lands as grow sites for marijuana and discuss barriers to the criminal prosecution of drug traffickers.  According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), more than 10 million marijuana plants were seized in 2010.  Almost 60 percent of the marijuana plants seized (5.9 million) were found on public lands, including national forests and tribal lands.
